An Interview With Bill Richardson on Energy Independence

From Grist.org...check it out here. Lots of detail about his plan, which has been hailed by the Sierra Club and other environmental organizations as the boldest, best environmental/energy strategy of the major candidates.

BTW, later today, in Iowa, the Gov will unveil his heathcare plan in detail.

His plan is strong, but I don't believe it's so unique as to differentiate him from the rest of the Democrats, all of whom have energy plans that are essentially the same to some degree.

Bill needs to play up his role as former Secretary of Energy under Clinton, and he needs to make more mention of his renewable energy achievements as Governor of New Mexico.

Actually, if you go to that link on the post just before this one, you'll see that, of the top 4 Dems, Richardson has the only plan rated with a "high" level of detail. He's much more specific on energy than the others. It's not "the same" as the others' plans at all.

Agreed on the point that his plan has a higher level of detail, that is a definite plus.

But when it comes down to it, pretty much all of the Democratic candidates are for increased incentives for solar, wind, geothermal, etc. sources of power, plug in hybrids, and possibly nuclear energy. This is a good thing, but lending support to these alternatives is hardly a unique selling point for any of them.

This is why I feel that Richardson would be on much stronger footing by playing up his experience and achievements in the energy sector as Secretary of Energy and Governor of NM.
